Mitsubishi WRC in action at Rallyday

Since it was first organised in 2001, Cirencester-based Mitsubishi Motors UK has been a keen supporter of Rallyday – and 2008 is no exception. Its involvement sees the return of the ultra-impressive Lancer WRC05, this year demonstrated by current British Rally Champion and Mitsubishi works driver Guy Wilks:

“I’ve been to Rallyday before and it really is a great day out – even more so for me this year as it will be the first time I have driven at the event. I’ve only tried the Lancer WRC05 once before and it’s a fantastic car, so I’m looking forward to ‘performing’ in front of the crowds.”

Also on display will be one of the two UK Works Group N Lancer Evolution IXs as driven by Guy in this year’s British Rally Championship. Guy brought home the coveted British Team’s title for Mitsubishi in 2007 together with his team-mate, the former British Champion Gwyndaf Evans, who has just confirmed that he will also be attending this year’s Rallyday.

The Mitsubishi stand will feature the latest version of the Japanese firm’s iconic rally-bred saloon, the new Lancer Evolution X, plus other models from its range alongside cars from Mitsubishi’s one-make rally series, the popular and highly-competitive Evolution Challenge. Adding to its support, Mitsubishi will also be providing official event support vehicles for the Rallyday organisers.

“We are delighted to continue our association with Rallyday”, said Paul Brigden, General Manager of Ralliart. “It is a great opportunity for us and other manufacturers and teams to display our cars to the public, many of whom are rally fans of course.” As well as driving the Mitsubishi WRC car, Guy Wilks is destined to have a busy day promoting his ‘Back the Brit’ campaign, a national project to raise awareness and funds for a season in the World Rally Championship in 2009. Guy will also be trying to smash the lens on PIAA’s brand new ‘shock-proof’ rally lamp, which is being launched at Rallyday. PIAA claims it is indestructible – and Guy is going to prove that there is only one-way to find out!

Rallyday would not be the same without the tyre-smoking spectacle of the Russ Swift Precision Driving Team, who will again be performing one of their incredible displays – and this year’s event will host one of the first performances with the team’s new Lancer Evolution X.
